Chevalier D'or De La Vierge

Okay, imagine this: little me, glued to the TV, watching Saint Seiya (Les Chevaliers du Zodiaque for my fellow French speakers!). I was completely obsessed. Every episode was a life-or-death battle, full of sparkly armor and dramatic yelling. And then, there was Shaka. So serene. So powerful. And Mu. So… purple? But there was always this lurking question, the elephant in the room, if you will: where's the cool lady knight?!

And that’s where the Chevalier d'Or de la Vierge (Gold Saint of Virgo) comes in, or rather, doesn't. Because, surprise, surprise… she doesn’t officially exist. Now, before you throw your tomatoes at me (or your baguette halves, I’m not judging), let’s delve a little deeper, shall we?

Saint Seiya, as awesome as it is, has a bit of a... sausage party vibe going on. I mean, seriously, a handful of female Saints and practically zero Gold Saint representation? Come on, Masami Kurumada, give us something! Donne-nous de la diversité! (See what I did there?).

Now, I’m not saying the series is inherently sexist. There are strong female characters, like Saori/Athena, who, while sometimes needing rescuing (ahem), is essentially the most powerful being in the whole shebang. But let’s be honest, she's more of a damsel with distress than a hands-on fighter like the other Gold Saints. So what about a lady Virgo Gold Saint?

This is where the fandom speculation comes in – and oh boy, it is wild! People have created entire backstories, designed armor, and even written fanfiction about a potential female Virgo Saint. Some theories suggest that maybe Shaka was originally intended to be a woman, which would actually be pretty interesting.

Think about it: the Virgo Saint is often depicted as being closest to the gods, possessing immense spiritual power, and exhibiting a calm, almost detached demeanor. These traits aren't inherently male or female, are they? And a female Gold Saint meditating in her lotus position, radiating cosmic energy? That image is pure gold, literally!

Of course, the official line from the creators is… silence. No female Virgo Gold Saint. But that doesn’t stop fans from dreaming, right? (That’s the beauty of fandom!). It's like having a delicious croissant right in front of you, but you’re only allowed to smell it. Frustrant, n'est-ce pas? (Frustrating, isn't it?)

So, the Chevalier d'Or de la Vierge remains a tantalizing "what if." A blank canvas for fan creativity, a symbol of representation that the original series lacked. And you know what? Maybe that’s okay. Maybe the power of the idea, the potential for a truly powerful and nuanced female Gold Saint, is even stronger than if she actually existed within the official canon. Think about it: she can be whatever you want her to be.

Who knows, maybe one day, in some alternate universe or rebooted series, we'll finally get our female Virgo Gold Saint. Until then, we can keep dreaming, keep speculating, and keep writing those amazing fanfics! À bientôt, mes amis! (See you soon, my friends!).
