Ah, Et Ils Vécurent Heureux Scan. This phrase. We know it. We love it. Or… do we?
Let's be honest. When you see that little phrase pop up at the end of a manga or a manhwa, doesn't a tiny part of you scream, "LIAR!"?
Happy Ever After? More Like Highly Unlikely
Seriously. Think about it. These characters. They've been through wars! Love triangles! Existential crises involving magical cats and questionable fashion choices!
You expect me to believe, after ALL THAT, they're just going to settle down and bake cookies?
Please.
I'm not saying they won't be happy. Maybe. For a while. But “ever after”? That's a LONG time. And life, as we all know, is messy.

So, my (slightly) unpopular opinion? Et Ils Vécurent Heureux Scan is a nice sentiment. A comforting promise. But also, a massive cop-out.
The Unwritten Chapters
What about the arguments over whose turn it is to do the dishes after saving the world? The in-law drama with the queen who’s secretly plotting a hostile takeover of the vegetable garden? The existential dread of realizing they're still paying off student loans from wizarding school?
We deserve to see those stories! Give us the slice-of-life shenanigans of retired heroes! I want to read about the support groups for former chosen ones struggling with PTSD and a sudden lack of purpose!
Instead, we get… poof …everything's sunshine and rainbows forever.

Okay, maybe I'm being a little harsh. I appreciate the hope. I really do. But a little realism wouldn't hurt.
My Proposed Alternative
Instead of Et Ils Vécurent Heureux Scan, I propose something a little more…accurate.
How about:

“And They Lived. It Was Complicated. But Mostly, They Made It Work. Scan.”
Or maybe:
“And They Lived. There Were Ups And Downs. And At Least One Incident Involving A Runaway Dragon And A Very Embarrassed Best Friend. Scan.”
See? More believable. More relatable. More opportunities for spin-offs!

Ultimately, I just want to see more of these characters I've grown to love. I want to know that their happiness is earned, not just magically bestowed upon them by a convenient ending.
So, the next time you see Et Ils Vécurent Heureux Scan, take it with a grain of salt. Smile politely. But deep down, know that the real story is probably a lot more interesting…and a lot messier. Just like real life.
And hey, maybe one day, someone will finally give us the sequel we deserve: "The Adventures of the Ex-Chosen One and Their Annoyingly Perfect Neighbor." I’d read that. Wouldn’t you?
Especially if there's a scan available.
