Okay, picture this: I'm at a friend's place, controller in hand, utterly demolished after trying to beat Ruby Weapon in the original FFVII for like, the hundredth time. Rage-quitting was DEFINITELY involved. Then, outta nowhere, my friend casually mentions, "You know they're still making the Remake, right?" Me? I nearly choked on my pizza roll. That's how far behind I was. But, hey, better late than never, right? And that, my friends, is how my deep dive into the Partie 2 hype train began.
So, what's the deal with Final Fantasy VII Remake Partie 2, or Rebirth, as it's officially called? Well, for starters, forget everything you think you know about the original story. (Yeah, I know, easier said than done for us die-hard fans.) Because Square Enix is throwing curveballs left and right, and honestly, I'm here for it!
The biggest question, of course, is where the heck are they going with the plot? The first part, while beautiful and engaging, definitely took some liberties. We saw characters survive things they shouldn't have (ahem, Biggs), and timelines getting all wibbly-wobbly. (Doctor Who, anyone?). What does this mean for Aerith? For Zack? For the entire fate of the planet? My anxiety levels are through the roof, but in a good way!
Seriously, the speculation is insane. Are we looking at multiple timelines now? Is Sephiroth manipulating events from the shadows even more than we thought? Will Cloud ever stop being so… broody? (I'm kidding, I love you, Cloud.) Honestly, I'm more confused than ever, but that’s precisely why I'm so invested. It's not just a remake; it's a re-imagining, and that’s exciting!

What We (Think We) Know
From the trailers and snippets we've seen, it's pretty clear we're heading outside Midgar. Which, duh, the original game was mostly not in Midgar. We’re getting to explore iconic locations like Kalm, Junon, and the Golden Saucer (please, please let them nail the minigames!). It looks absolutely stunning, by the way. The graphics are a serious upgrade from the first part (if that was even possible!), and the open-world elements seem more expansive. (Side note: I REALLY hope they give us more Chocobo riding time. Those feathery friends deserve it!)
Combat-wise, it looks like we're getting a similar blend of real-time action and tactical pauses, but with even more character customization and strategic options. Team synergy will be key, and the new abilities and limit breaks look absolutely bonkers. (I'm already mentally preparing my materia loadouts.) Will there be new characters playable? Maybe? I'm desperately hoping for Vincent Valentine and Yuffie to join the party (in a more significant way, Yuffie’s DLC was great, but give us more!).

The Hype Is Real
Look, let's be honest: there's always a risk with remakes. They can either elevate the original or completely butcher it. But from what I've seen so far, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is shaping up to be something truly special. It's a love letter to the original, but with a fresh perspective and a willingness to take risks. (And let's be real, who doesn't love a good plot twist?)
So, are you ready to dive back into the world of Gaia? Are you prepared to have your heart broken all over again? (And then maybe pieced back together in unexpected ways?) I know I am! Let the countdown begin! (P.S. Square Enix, please don't mess this up. We're counting on you!)
