Don't get me wrong! I appreciate the character arc. The awkwardness! The desire to be a cool dude! We've all been there. Maybe not with the same level of, uh, blushing. But still! Relatable!
But sometimes… I just want to shake him! Like, "Aki! Grow a spine! Or, you know, at least speak up!"
The Overpowered Cast
And it's not entirely his fault, right? He's surrounded by… well, let's call them eccentric personalities. Ayaka Sunohara? Absolute queen. The other girls? Equally… enthusiastic.
They overshadow him! It's like trying to see a tiny star next to the sun. Good luck with that.
Honestly, I often find myself way more invested in what Sunohara-san is doing. Is she going to tease him relentlessly? Probably. Will it be hilarious? Definitely.
Is it a bad show?
Absolutely not! Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou is fun. It's fluffy. It's got that nice "slice of life" vibe that makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Well, mostly.
The animation is cute! The music is catchy! The situations are… well, let's just say they’re memorable. But the central character? He gets lost in the sauce.
Maybe that's the point! Maybe it's a deliberate choice by the creators to make him the "straight man" in this wacky world. But for me, it doesn't quite land.
I end up feeling more pity than empathy. And while pity can be a powerful emotion, it's not exactly what I'm looking for in a protagonist.
